“The DAISY Award is a recognition program to celebrate and recognize nurses by collecting nominations from patients, families, and co-workers. It is run by our partners as a way to thank nurses for the care and kindness they provide.”
This award recognizes outstanding nurses who provide exceptional clinical care and show kindness to those around them. By honoring compassionate nurses, DAISY reinforces the importance of compassion in healthcare.
The DAISY Foundation was formed in January 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. In 2001, the Barnes family founded the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses to thank nurses across the country, as they believed nurses are genuinely “unsung heroes.” They felt nurses deserve our society’s profound respect and recognition for the education, training, brainpower, and skill they put into their work, not to mention the compassion with which they deliver their care.
At Interstaff, we are immensely proud to highlight two of our nurses who received DAISY Awards this year: Susan and Rose.
Susan is an RN from Kenya, and Rose is an RN from the Philippines. They have displayed extraordinary dedication and compassion in their work, which is why their hospital leaders and co-workers presented them each with their awards (as pictured below).
DAISY Award recipients are given a DAISY portfolio, a Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, an Honoree pin, a banner to hang in their unit, a copy of their nomination, a gift bag, and cinnamon rolls to share. Award winners are also eligible to receive professional development, education, and wellness benefits!
