Lydia’s USRN Journey: Building a Life and Career in the United States

For many international nurses, the journey to becoming a Registered Nurse in the United States is about far more than a career change. It’s about building a future and taking a leap of faith that affects not only the nurse but their family, their stability, and their long-term dreams.

Lydia’s nursing journey, featured below, reflects what’s possible when determination meets the right support. From the earliest steps of relocation to professional growth, leadership development, and family milestones, Lydia is a testament to what can happen when international nurses are truly supported—clinically, personally, and holistically. Her experience highlights how the right partnership can turn a complex transition into a meaningful and life-changing chapter.

Lydia shares:

“My journey to the United States as a Registered Nurse is one I will always look back on with deep gratitude to God, and Interstaff played a central role in ensuring that my transition and my family’s integration were smooth, stable, and successful.

My family and I arrived in Texas on September 14, 2022, and from the moment we landed, Interstaff’s support was evident. We spent our first two weeks with a family friend in Arlington, then transitioned to a hotel while we secured accommodation and settled into our new life. During this time, Morley, our Interstaff officer, was exceptional—answering questions, coordinating logistics, and ensuring my family felt guided and supported through each step.

Interstaff continued to walk with us throughout my onboarding process, from MEDITECH training to connecting me with my unit, 3ST Progressive Care, where I proudly served for three years. My professional growth in the U.S. was significant: I worked as an RN, served as a resource nurse, took on charge RN responsibilities, and served as an Interstaff Ambassador to new nurses. The environment Interstaff helped me transition into not only strengthened my clinical experience but also broadened my leadership capacity.

Our family also flourished during this period. My husband, Mr. Isah, quickly secured employment and began advancing in his own career. With determination and hard work, he completed his MBA in Supply Chain Management, a major academic and professional milestone that contributed greatly to our family’s progress and stability in the U.S. We are incredibly proud of his achievement. Our daughter, Nicole, settled in beautifully at elementary school, where she began the first grade and adapted well to her new environment. In my second year, we welcomed our son, Nathan, born on July 2, 2024, adding joy and fulfillment to our American journey. Even through pregnancy, childbirth, and transition back to work, Interstaff remained consistently supportive. I am especially grateful to the dedicated Interstaff team members who impacted my journey:
  • Molly, for her consistent check-ins, guidance, and encouragement.
  • Emerson and the Clinical Compliance Team, for ensuring my credentials and requirements were always up to date.
  • Payroll for dependable, timely compensation throughout my employment agreement.
  • Madison, for his genuine interest in our family’s well-being and constant follow-up.
  • Skye, for coordinating the Ambassador Program that built community and connection.
  • The Interstaff Support team and a whole lot not mentioned.

Interstaff’s professionalism, compassion, and commitment made my journey as an immigrant nurse in the U.S. not just successful but deeply meaningful. From the moment I reached out as an NCLEX passer to the completion of my three-year assignment, they were present, dependable, and invested in my success. I sincerely recommend Interstaff to any nurse seeking a reliable and supportive pathway to the United States. They created a foundation on which my family and I could grow, achieve, and thrive. For that, I remain truly grateful.”
